Frequently Asked Questions

Why are your prices higher than a bank?

Our vault exceeds the security and privacy standards found at banks. Our facility was built to the requirements of our insurance and security partners, allowing us to be the only accredited private vault in North County.

How do I access my box?

Our facility is open from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. To maintain client privacy and confidentiality, we only allow one party inside our facility at a time, so we ask that you call, text, or schedule a visit prior to your arrival to avoid having to wait.

Are bank safe deposit boxes insured by FDIC?

No. Bank safe deposit boxes are not insured and often have restrictive limits to the value that can be stored in them. At Refuge Vault, every client receives complimentary insurance coverage that can be increased as needed. Additional information about our insurance partners can be found HERE.

Who has access to the contents of my box?

Only the registered box owner has the keys required to open their box. Our professional security protocol exceeds industry standards, and our facility is professionally monitored 24/7/365.

How big are your boxes?

Our boxes range from Medium (5” x 10” x 22”) to Jumbo (20” x 15” x 22”), and we offer private vault rooms for artwork, collections, and larger valuables.

What items can I store in my box?

Clients commonly store jewelry, legal documents, heirlooms, collectibles, precious metals, digital media backups, and other irreplaceable items. For safety and compliance reasons, hazardous materials, perishable goods, illegal or stolen items are not permitted.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Refuge Vault operates with strict confidentiality policies. Your identity, stored contents, and visit history are never shared or disclosed.

How secure is the facility?

Our facility was built by Convergint, the largest secure facility management company in the country. Utilizing multi-layered access control, 24/7 surveillance, and a UL Certified Class 2 vault system, you won’t find a more secure facility anywhere.

Where is Refuge Vault located?

We are located in Del Mar, conveniently accessible to all areas of San Diego County.

Can I share access with a family member or trustee?

Yes. You may designate a secondary access person or beneficiary. Verification and secure credentialing are required for all parties.

What happens if I lose my keys?

Keys are unique and cannot be duplicated without authorization. If lost, a secure re-entry and lock replacement procedure is performed.

Can I increase my insurance coverage?

Absolutely. We provide complimentary base coverage and can arrange expanded insurance through our partners for high-value assets and collections.

Do you offer business or estate storage solutions?

Yes. We serve law firms, family offices, trust companies, and private businesses needing secure, third-party storage for sensitive records, assets, or other valuables.

Can I upgrade or change my box size later?

Yes. You can upgrade to a larger box or vault room at any time, subject to availability.
